Obituary: Paul W. J. Higgins

'Paul's greatest enjoyment was spending time with family and friends, sailing, watching sports and playing the guitar. He loved travelling, particularly if it involved visiting a new baseball stadium! He always had a good joke to share with his granddaughters.'

It is with great sadness we share that Paul Higgins, a beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, died peacefully on June 4, 2024, with his family by his side.

Born in Vancouver to Lorna and James, Paul grew up in North Vancouver, where he attended Carson Graham High School and was a successful track and field athlete. At age 17, he was diagnosed with lymphoma. Unfortunately, complications of treatment led to health problems later in life, including requiring a heart transplant in 2021.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Linda. Together, they shared a wonderful family, which included their daughter Emily (Sean) and son James (Ali). His grandchildren, Evie, Isla and Stella, sisters Barbara and Kathy (Dave), and many nieces and nephews brought immense happiness and laughter to his life.

Paul's greatest enjoyment was spending time with family and friends, sailing, watching sports and playing the guitar. He loved travelling, particularly if it involved visiting a new baseball stadium! He always had a good joke to share with his granddaughters.

Paul's love of the outdoors led him to complete the Capilano College Outdoor Recreation Management program as a young adult. He was proud to have been a volunteer member of the North Shore Search and Rescue. After completing his degree in Geography and Cartography at SFU, Paul had a successful career as a GIS specialist working for Telus and the District of Sechelt.

In honour of Paul, a celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, 1:00-4:00pm at Chaster House, 1549 Ocean Beach Esplanade, Gibsons, BC. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
