The Sunshine Coast Lions Club — and bright sunshine — attracted 32 teams to its annual sandcastle competition at Davis Bay on July 27. After the start signal at 12:30, teams had three hours for focused sculpting.

On behalf of the Gibsons Canada Day Festival Society, Matt Rowan and Conchita Harding presented a $2,000 cheque to Tania from the Salvation Army Food Bank. The funds were collected by volunteers at the Canada Day BBQ in Winegarden Park, Gibsons.
