Editor:
We are grateful for the recognition of our trained hospice volunteers by Alan Sirulnikoff in his letter to the editor published on Dec.1. The experience of Mr. Sirulnikoff’s family is exactly what our volunteers wish to provide for anyone on the Coast who needs hospice support, and their loved ones.
When Vancouver Coast Health closes its two hospice suites at Shorncliffe and opens four interim suites at Silverstone early next year, our volunteers will continue to be present for patients and families who want to receive our support and companionship wherever they reside–whether at home, in hospital or long-term care.
We continue to work with VCH on plans for a permanent, dedicated home for hospice and palliative respite care that will meet the long-term needs of our population on the Coast. On behalf of our volunteers, staff team and my fellow board directors, thank you for the strong support within our community for the work of Hospice.
