Editor:
We have been advocating for many years for an extension of fire protection up the Port Mellon Highway. As reported in your paper, the fire at 1800 Port Mellon Highway, which burned a house to the ground as fire, police and ambulance watched was heartbreaking to everyone. This could happen to any of us north of YMCA road. There are communities on the Sunshine Coast 10 kilometres or more from a fire hall that have fire protection, but we have nothing.
We request yet again, an independent feasibility study to assess existing Gibsons and District Volunteer Fire Department capacity, and the financial implications involved.
Sincerely,
Chris Wilkinson, Gibsons
