Letters: Gardeners of Gibsons, hear ye

Editor:

The Gibsons Garden Club is a vibrant group of enthusiastic gardeners and preparations are in full swing for the annual Gibsons Garden Club plant sale. The sale will take place Saturday, April 26, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The club is very excited to host the sale in a new location this year and will be set up at the Gibsons Royal Canadian Legion, 747 Gibsons Way. Members have been busy over the past year propagating and dividing plants from their own gardens to share with other keen gardeners.

There will be a large selection of very reasonably priced plants to choose from, something for everybody.

Over the last few years, there has been a resurgence in gardening in response to climate change. There is a greater focus on growing edibles and food sustainability in general here on the Sunshine Coast. Whether somebody grows a salad garden in a pot on their deck, or farmers grow fields of vegetables, it all helps to lower the carbon footprint. Some people are planning beautiful pollinator gardens full of flowering plants that attract the bees and butterflies that are essential to continued food production. Other gardeners are turning their attention to xeriscaping, a way of gardening that reduces or eliminates the need for water, in an attempt to address the shortage of water availability.

In addition, visit our exciting Garden Art and Décor stalls. There will be an eclectic assortment of garden décor to choose from ranging from stepping stones and trellises to colourful pieces of art. Another popular stall at the Gibsons Garden Club’s plant sale is the baking table where you can choose a delicious treat to take home to enjoy with a cup of tea while you plan where to put your new plants.
