Sunshine Coast goal keeper plays in LA Mayor’s Cup

Born and raised Sunshine Coaster, Chelsey Seabrook, was asked to join the Surrey metro soccer team BC Tigers as the goal keeper in a competitive international showcase tournament, the Las Vegas Mayor’s Cup Feb. 23 to 25.

Sunshine Coaster Chelsey Seabrook let in only one goal in her five games of the Las Vegas Mayor’s Cup in February. Her team brought home gold!

Born and raised Sunshine Coaster, Chelsey Seabrook, was asked to join the Surrey metro soccer team BC Tigers as the goal keeper in a competitive international showcase tournament, the Las Vegas Mayor’s Cup Feb. 23 to 25. 

They won their first game Friday 3-0 versing Emerald City, Washington  

Their second game that night was also 3-0 versing Las Vegas Sports Academy. 

Saturday was another 3-0 win versing the FC Blues, California. 

The fourth game was 3-1 win versing the Harbor Washington which got them to the Sunday finals where they won by sending a beauty hard into the bottom corner in the last five minutes. Resulting in the final win 1-0 versing Utah Avalanche  

Chelsey was focused and ready every minute made some incredible saves and only let one goal in that was millimeters from her glove out of all five games. She also assisted one of the goals with a powerful dropkick to a forward who beat a defender and sent the ball to the back of the net. She has been training hard and playing soccer since she was four years old. Coach Clive said the girls received several compliments from opposing teams on their talent and clean skilled gameplay. They were the only team from Canada out of 24 in their age group that won gold and took home a trophy this weekend. 

Chelsey was grateful for the opportunity and wanted to thank the community of Sunshine Coast for all their support while she was fundraising all winter to help make this Las Vegas trip possible.
