The Storm improved their impressive unbeaten run to 12 games with a dominant 6-0 victory over ICSF Juventus in their first home game since Sept. 28. Despite the unpredictable weather — sunshine, gusting winds, and sideways rain — the Storm put on a show of ruthless efficiency. Mike Cowie, Sunshine Coast football legend, even had to tuck his gorgeous flowing mane beneath a cap to battle the elements, which may have disheartened his fans, but was a fitting testament to the stormy conditions and his dedication to the team.

Zach Pence and Kalen Zayshley were standout performers, each scoring twice to help their side cruise to victory. Pence’s second was a moment of quality, rising to meet a pinpoint cross from Zayshley, heading the ball past the Juventus keeper with clinical precision. Leo Reid and Sam Pratt also got in on the action, each bagging a goal to complete the 6-0 scoreline.

The engine behind the Storm’s attacking play was their midfield duo of Wes Obeck and Nevin Cullen. The two controlled the tempo of the game from start to finish, using smart, accurate passes to break down Juventus’ defensive lines. Their intelligent link-up play allowed the attackers to flourish. At the back, the Storm were as solid as ever, chalking up their 10th clean sheet of the season. And with only three goals conceded in 12 matches, the Storm easily boast the best defensive record in the league.

A real test arrives this Saturday, when the third-placed Storm face second-placed Langley UTD at Brothers Park in what will be the final game of 2024 before the winter break, providing the lads a much deserved rest from soccer action. Langley boasts the league’s most potent attack, having scored an impressive 53 goals this season; the Storm defense has been impenetrable, giving up just three goals in 12 matches. It’s quite simply a match of best offence versus best defense.

The stakes are high. A win for the Storm would see them leapfrog Langley into second place and keeping them within striking distance of league leaders CMF Aston Villa. With just two points separating the Storm from top spot, the race for the 2024 title is heating up.

Upcoming game details: The Storm will face Langley UTD this Saturday, Dec. 14, at p.m. at Brothers Park.
