Conservation officer discusses challenges and updates in Sechelt's black bear conflict response

An enticing aroma of cedar permeates the air as carver Derek Georgeson enters his gallery workspace in ch’atlich (Sechelt). Past the double doors bearing a metal blackfish design, which he created digitally and had fabricated elsewhere, he holds up his latest work-in-progress: a red cedar wall panel with a stylized eagle facing a bear.

Sept. 10 saw a capacity crowd gather at West Sechelt’s Holy Family Catholic Church Hall.

The inaugural Car Free Day on Cowrie Street took place, Saturday, Sept. 7, in downtown Sechelt and event organizer Martin Prestage couldn’t have been happier with the results.

More than 70 households came to the fall fair Sept.
