Sunshine Coast swimmers Christine Chandler and Jack Adams (pictured here with their medals) were part of a small, dedicated group of local seniors who practice regularly at the Sechelt Aquatic Centre. They attended the 33rd annual BC 55+ Games recently held in Victoria. The games had been postponed for the past three years due to the pandemic, so were enthusiastically embraced by the thousands of participants, supporters and volunteers at their renewed start up. The purpose of these games is to provide a forum for BC seniors to continue to compete. They do this by promoting community awareness of the contemporary image of the senior population as physically active and socially engaged. Above all, these Games are an excellent opportunity to renew friendships from around the province and to have a week of fun! The games change venue each year. In 2023, they are due to be held in Abbotsford from Aug. 22 to 26. It should also be mentioned here that Bruce McDonald, another of the small group of dedicated local competitive senior swimmers, participated in the Canada 55+ Games held in Kamloops in August. This was a national event. He returned with four medals from these games.
