The Suncoast Phoenix Community Choir welcomed the groundhog’s prediction of an early spring by holding its inaugural Groundhog Day Burger and Fun gathering on Feb. 3 at the Sechelt Senior Activity Centre. In front of more than 100 supporters, choir members provided entertainment that included the self-accompanied ballad I Love That Dog by singer-guitarist Nancy Webber and Sylvain Brochu’s charismatic channeling of Snoopy from You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown (complete with Rockettes-style high-kicking to welcome suppertime). For its concluding number, the full mixed voice choir gathered onstage under the direction of leader Sara Douglas to sing Sisi Ni Moja, a Swahili phrase that means “We are one.”
