Supersized kisses & kicks: The world doesn't owe you an ashtray, and kisses for 80th birthday service

Here are the good deeds (and not so good deeds) that happened in our Coast community this week!
Kisses & Kicks
Kisses & Kicks

Here are your kicks and kisses for the week of December 22!

  • Rakes up to Lennox & Davis for their attack on fallen leaves off the Mighty Oak. Under the tutelage of their grandfather there will be no plugged culvert! No flooded basement! Job well done! Bring on the atmospheric rivers!
  • Huge kisses to Rob and Graham at the Town of Gibsons Public Works. You went above and beyond to unplug the drain grate that was flooding our parking lot. You both were soaked and cold, but you were successful. This building caretaker so appreciated you and your hard work. Hats off to you both.
  • Kisses to the wonderful people from Ruby Slipper and Black Boot fund who surprised us this week with some Christmas gifts. We are overwhelmed with the thoughtfulness and support our little family continue to receive as we navigate such a difficult time. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
  • Massive shin kicks to the company vehicles constantly speeding on Redrooffs Road. Next time I’ll make sure I acknowledge ALL of you by name.
  • Kisses to Sgt. Miller (Conservation Officer) and to the community of the Sunshine Coast.  Together, your hard work and combined efforts for reporting, locating, and rescuing the Langdale bear cub is very much appreciated!
  • Kisses to the Paramedics, Dr. Goodja, Dr. Koopman, Dr. Jaschinski, Cowrie Medical Clinic and Sechelt Hospital for the tender loving care you gave my dad in his final days. Your kindness made a challenging time much easier.
  • Christmas cheers and holiday hugs to Sechelt, for all its splendour and peacefulness. God bless us all!
  • Kisses to our amazing community who supported the 2024 Elphinstone grads in their poinsettia, greenery sales and raffle ticket sales. Your support is very much appreciated!
  • Kisses to Elite Contracting for donating a box a cookies to 11 daycare kids (Petits du Pacifique) as we were on our way to Hackett park. They really enjoy them!
  • Huge Kisses to Jill M. and the staff of Coastal Crust Pizzeria for donating delicious slices to the residents of the shelter in Sechelt. What a lovely gesture and a kind way to support your community.
  • Kisses to Kenmac Autoparts, Park Road Automotive and Columbia Fuels for handling and recycling used oil. Your efforts are appreciated. All of you rock and have earned recognition and support for your efforts to make the Coast and planet a better place to live.
  • An evening full of kisses to Maddy at the Blackfish Pub who went over and above to provide excellent service to our friends attending my wife’s 80th birthday party – including her technical ability to show a picture file on the big TV.
  • 847 shoeboxes of kisses to all who participated in filling shoeboxes with school supplies, hygiene items and toys for children. You have made a huge difference. Thank you also to all who prepared items, sewed or knitted items, searched for items, handed out empty shoeboxes, packed shoeboxes and transported filled ones. It is a joy to work with each one of you!

  • Holiday Kisses to Daljeet at the Royal Bank. The genuine kindness and help she gave to our super senior friend who was victimized by a scam was heartwarming.
  • Kisses to Van Dusen Gardens Festival of Lights.  Beyond spectacular. Get there at 3:30 and walk in at 4 p.m. regardless of time booked. Best time to go for free parking in their lot, not as crowded (5-7000 people a night) and best time for photographs while the sky still has a little colour. Take a late ferry home.  Magnificent.
  • Multiple kicks to an organisation for wrongly sending me a reservation no show notification and a penalty charge. More kicks for the slow resolution process.
  • Kisses to “Barb” who helped my 93 year old mother back to her vehicle after she had to park far away from the Sechelt Post Office due to road work on Inlet Avenue.
  • Christmas cheer to Bill and his faithful companion who walk about Sechelt with a smile and kind words to those who pass by. You “see” more goodness than most! Thank you. You’re an inspiration!
  • Big gratitude to the folks at Marks, Gibsons location, for their generous donation of warm socks for gift bag donations to recipients in need through Salvation Army and St. Bart’s shelter.
  • Big kisses to the cook and all the volunteers at the Seniors Activity Centre in Sechelt who roll out amazing meals every lunch! Your food is healthy and tasty and many seniors are grateful for a hot meal, reasonably priced.
  • Kisses to all the staff at IGA. They are the best, and they make IGA-Gibsons like the best store in town.
  • Melodious kisses to the cheesy Santa who whistles so sweetly outside the Wilson Creek IGA. Who knew Santa could whistle?
  • Kisses to the generous woman randomly giving away gift cards in IGA on Senior Shop day. Thank you! And a Merry Christmas to you.
  • Kicks to the individual in downtown Sechelt who has, for at least two years now, picked up their dog poop, placed it in a plastic bag and then thrown the bag onto the road or the grass beside the road, to be run over, and stepped on!  What are you thinking? Give your head a shake.
  • Kisses to the person/people who raked up the pinecones and tidied Adonidas Lane, and the stairs, too! It feels much safer to walk down now - thank you!
  • Huge canine kicks to the inconsiderate and irresponsible dog owner who let their “obviously” large dog leave four huge droppings on our landscaped area in our front yard in Cascade Heights on the weekend.
  • Kicks to the local government that fines people for parking on the street when there’s new construction is going on, taking up most of the parking spots.
  • Big lipsticky kisses to the Sunshine Coast Affordable Housing Society and the beautiful drag queens and kings for the reminder to open your heart, not worry so much about money and to wear an amazing outfit.
  • Kisses and grateful thank yous to Cara and Mike of Cardinal Barbers for going above and beyond the call of duty in order to give me a haircut after I injured my back and was unable to manage the stairs to the salon. Always great haircuts and friendly chats.
  • Kicks to the smokers who think the world owes them an ashtray. Carry your own, with your cigarettes. Your butts are poisonous. Dispose of them responsibly.
  • Kisses to Wayne, Guy and the many volunteers who made Breakfast with Santa at Gibsons Legion on Saturday such a huge success. Funds for the Legion were raised and a mountain of toys donated will be distributed to local transition houses.
  • Kisses to the lady who handed me a gift bag with a $100 gift card at IGA in Gibsons; much appreciated.
  • Grateful kisses to the people who work at the Sechelt Post Office. Let’s remember they are not elves, they are people with families, working overtime when they would rather be resting for their next regular shift.
  • Autoparts full of gratitude to the staff of Lordco. Service plus and when I mention it to others they reply, how it is true for them also. They take time to discuss and don’t sell you what you don’t need.
  • Kisses to the good folks at DoS, ToG, the SCRD, and ESS for trying in earnest to find a new home for the SCYSA equipment container. Cheers to CSS for allowing the container for many years! Finally, a big smooch to Morgan’s Boutique in Gibsons for stepping up and offering their shared space!
