For the next five days, folks in the qathet region will experience sunshine and temperatures between four and seven degrees Celsius, in the daytime, and below zero temperatures at night, according to Weatherhood.
Currently, the temperature is at six degrees and will dip to minus three degrees this evening. The humidity is quite high, at 93 per cent, making it seem quite chilly on BC's coastal areas.
There is zero chance of rain in the forecast until next Thursday, February 6, when there is an 80 per cent chance of showers predicted.
The highly social California sea lions and some steller sea lions can be seen and heard around Salish Sea waters as of late, making a cacophony of sound, and also, most likely, enjoying the sunny weather.
Many can be seen around Third and Second beaches, playfully diving, feeding on fish, octopus and squid, and doing something called rafting. That's when a group of sea lions gather together to rest or sleep, with their flippers raised above the water. Sea lions also raft to regulate body temperature.
The website and mobile app called iNaturalist has a library of photos and information about sea lions in the qathet region available, along with information about hundreds of other species of plants and animals found on the northern Sunshine Coast, and can be found by typing inaturalist.org/places/powell-river, into a web browser.
