Youth tennis tourney a slamming success

On Nov. 18, the Suncoast Racquet Club held its first Youth Tennis Tournament at its Community Tennis Centre in Sechelt.  Youth aged eight to 14 years (who had a pro-D day from school) took part in this fun tourney, plus their friends could join in the fun tennis afternoon games too.

Jake Folinsbee, 11, was the youth champion with convincing set wins of 6-3, 6-1 and 6-2 and Eliana Puentevella, 8, was a very worthy runner-up given her age. Definitely ones to watch in the future.

Club coaches were on hand to guide them in their pursuits and a fun day was had by all.  Many thanks to Sachiko and all the team involved in creating a successful inaugural youth tennis event.

The SRC Tennis Club is the only indoor tennis centre on the Coast for year-round tennis.  There is an active youth tennis program with more than 35 players who play during the week from 3:30 p.m. in ability groups ranging from complete beginners to intermediate level. Also, in spring and summer breaks the club organizes week-long tennis camps indoors in Sechelt and outdoors at the Dougall Park courts in Gibsons.  Built on the success so far, Youth Programs, Camps and Youth Club events will continue.
