Coen Enthoven brought back gold from the War on the Floor earlier this month, the only high school wrestler to top the podium this year.

Chatelech’s Coen Enthoven travelled to Vancouver on Dec. 15, to participate in SFU’s War on the Floor tournament in the elite division. He took on the top club wrestlers from B.C. and Alberta and emerged on top.

Coen, a Grade 12 student, trains hard, travelling three times a week to and from Gibsons Elementary School, where the school district wrestling programs runs, to his home in Halfmoon Bay on public transit.

His sacrifice has paid dividends as he was able to triumph over his competition, who are all club kids who train upwards of six days a week with paid coaches. Coen was the only high school wrestler this year to top the podium, taking gold.

This event determined the Team BC line up.  Only three North Shore wrestlers have ever made the BC Wrestling team, a Carson Graham wrestler, Ethan Sullivan from Elphinstone and now Coen.

Coen will now represent B.C. and travel to Calgary in two weeks to compete in University of Calgary’s tournament, The Dino’s Cup. After his last match, the head coach of the University of Calgary, walked on the mat and offered Coen a spot on his varsity team next. Coen would join Elphinstone’s own, Lia Trent, who joined the team this year, and Ethan who was also offered a spot on the University of Calgary Team.

Coach Sullivan, said he “is so proud of him. Coen’s hard work and dedication has paid off.”
