The Sunshine Coast Volleyball Club’s U14 Girl’s team placed fifth at provincials, held April 26 to 28 in Abbotsford.

In pool play the team lost its first match against Momentum.

They won their next two matches versus FVVC Blue and KVC Krush Black in two sets. The girls played with a lot of energy and chemistry. In one set, they came from behind to win 17-22.

The team had some strong serving runs from Mika Schutz and Annalisa Achee. The setters were in their zone and the team had great net play from Schutz, Cassie and Paula. They came out of their pool in second place, which gave them a difficult opponent, T2VB Crew2, for their crossover match.

One set was a very close 25-23. The other they lost 25-17. T2 ended up winning gold in the division, and never lost a set, so it was unfortunate the team played them at that time.

On Sunday the team played two matches. They lost the first set 18-25 against Glenmore Valley and then won the next and third 17-15. It was a nail biter. The last match for fifth place was a rematch against Momentum, which the girls won in two sets. The second one was very close. The girls were ecstatic and really proud of their tournament performance.
