Rapids secure final spot in provincials

The Sunshine Coast Rapids have clinched the final spot in the 2024 provincial championships in Langley, July 25 to 28. The Rapids concluded their regular season with a record of nine wins, four losses and a tie.

The Sunshine Coast Rapids have clinched the final spot in the 2024 provincial lacrosse championships in Langley, July 25 to 28.  

The Rapids concluded their regular season with a record of nine wins, four losses and a tie. Their journey to the provincials began with a clear objective: to fight through the playdowns and secure their spot in the provincials. 

The first round of playdowns saw the Rapids face off against the Poco Pirates in a best-of-three series. The Rapids quickly moved ahead, clinching the series in two hard-fought games, 

Advancing to the single-elimination round, the Rapids encountered the Burnaby Lakers. The match was a nail-biter, with both teams showcasing exceptional talent and fierce determination. Despite a valiant effort, the Rapids fell short by a single goal, losing the game in a heart-wrenching finish. This loss, however, did not extinguish their hopes. 

With one final chance to qualify, the Rapids faced the Coquitlam Adanacks. The stakes were high, and the atmosphere was charged with anticipation. The game began on a challenging note for the Rapids, as they found themselves down by two goals at the end of the first period. 

However, true to their spirit, the Rapids mounted a comeback. By the final period, the Rapids were unstoppable, scoring five more goals and securing a decisive 5-2 victory. 

As they prepare for the competition in Langley, the Rapids carry with them the support and pride of the Sunshine Coast community. 

Head Coach Christian Noorguard expressed his elation, “This team has shown incredible resilience throughout the season. Their ability to overcome adversity and fight back when the odds are against them is remarkable. We’re excited for the provincials and ready to give it our all.” 

The provincial championships promise to be a thrilling showcase of talent and determination, with the Rapids ready to take on the best teams in the province.
