The Sunshine Coast Boxing Club’s Mike Gray won a hard-fought unanimous decision at a Boxing BC/Boxing Canada sanctioned event presented by the Queensborough Boxing Club in Surrey Dec.14.

The debuting Gray at 164 lbs., who hails from Sechelt took the fight to his more experienced opponent, Queensborough Boxing Club boxer Jeevan Sehmi 171lbs.who entered the ring with a 2-1 record.

In the first round, Gray set up his opponent with an effective left jab and landed a booming right cross that staggered his opponent giving the referee cause to issue a standing eight count to Shemi. Through the rest of the first round and into the second round, Gray was the more competitive boxer and held the edge in the fight.

In the third and final round of this amateur contest, Shemi found his second wind and stole the close round through intelligent defence and counter punching.

As Gray won two of three rounds on all the judges’ score cards, he was declared the winner.

Gray was obviously elated by this positive boxing experience he had worked so hard for.

Mike was trained and supported by the SCBC coaching staff consisting of founder and head coach Rick Shannon, Sunshine Coast Boxing, and fitness owner George Vourtsis.

He received great sparring in preparation for this fight from Marcus Davies, Cam Longman, Emil Constantinescu as well as the enthusiasm of our gym’s members.
