For the third year straight, the Coast Reporter was named best in its circulation class at the Ma Murray Awards.

The 2023 award recipients were announced on May 4 in a virtual event hosted by the B.C. and Yukon Community News Media Association (BCYCNA).

The Coast Reporter won gold in circulation class D (up to 17,000 circulation) and also came away with a silver photography award for reporter Keili Bartlett's haunting feature photo, October Haze.

The eerie image captured a day in the life of a community finding its way through overlapping crises. It was taken in mid-October, just after the local elections, when a smoke warning was issued during a months-long drought and just as a state of local emergency was declared. Well done, Keili!

This year marks the 101st anniversary of the BCYCNA.
