Air-conditioned spaces will be available to the public at regional recreation facilities as the hottest days of this year are anticipated to be on their way to our area, according to Environment Canada.

In a July 4 press release, the Sunshine Coast Regional District stated that the lobbies at the Gibsons & Area Community Centre and Sechelt Aquatic Centre will be open to 8:30 p.m. daily and “are being made available for the community to take some time out of the heat."

The statement also noted that information on other areas to stay cool in the heat can be found on the B.C. provincial government website. It encouraged residents to stay up-to-date on information on potential emergency situations impacting the Coast, and what to do if one should occur, by checking on www.scrd.ca/emergency-alerts.

“The community is also encouraged to check in on neighbours and friends while the heat warning is in effect” the release stated.
