With “a considerable number of questions” submitted about proposed zoning bylaw amendments designed to strengthen riparian area and ocean shoreline protections within electoral areas, the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) postponed a public hearing scheduled for June 24. The new hearing dates is July 16, according to a news release issued June 26.
A public information meeting on the matter has also been scheduled for the evening of July 4 at the SCRD's offices on Field Road. Between 6:30 and 8 p.m. the regional government invites "respectful questions and dialogue" on the proposed legislation changes.
“Residents can continue to get informed about these proposed amendments and can ask questions”, the release stated. The region has a Let’s Talk platform on its website for those purposes.
The release also noted that written submissions already submitted for the public hearing remain valid and will form part of the public record for the rescheduled public hearing.
As of June 23, there were seven questions from the public included on the region’s “Let’s Talk” page.
The Waterfront Protection Coalition, a group of volunteers representing thousands of BC citizens advocating for fair consultation and representation on the proposed swiya-wide Dock Management Plan and other legislation, posted 13 questions about the proposed amendments on its website. Those inquire about why the proposed amendments are not reflective of input submitted by SCRD Advisory Planning Commissions, and whether the district has considered the impacts the changes could have on the value and ability to subdivide existing land parcels.
