The Pender Harbour Women’s Connection is holding its 25th anniversary celebration, Feb. 13. This organization has been bringing women together for companionship and enjoyment of hearing interesting speakers from varied backgrounds for a quarter of a century. Where were you in 1999? Bring along your story with pictures or mementos if possible. A retrospective of 1999 and the highlights of the Pender Harbour Women’s Connection’s activities over the last 25 years will be on the programme. Join with them in marking this happy occasion. Party refreshment and surprises in store! Doors open at 9:30 a.m. at the School of Music. Drop-in fee is $4.

The Pender Harbour Wildlife Society is pleased to host a presentation on Tuesday, Feb. 20 by Bill Henwood of the Loon Foundation. Bill spent most of his professional career and will focus on time spent with Parks Canada establishing new national parks and national marine conservation areas, including Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. Currently, he is engaged in local protected areas and land use issues on the Sunshine Coast and challenges of protecting nature in the modern world. The presentation will be at the Pender Harbour Secondary School in the food room. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. before the presentation at 7 p.m. Refreshments and raffle to follow and all are welcome to attend. For more information, email: [email protected]

February and March, the Rotary Rocks 50/50 Draw proceeds will be donated to the Royal Canadian Legion #112, Madeira Park (“PH Legion”) Generator Fund. The Pender Harbour Legion has volunteered to serve as a reception/support services centre for our community. Due to the numerous power outages and extreme weather conditions, we experience, the PH Legion has resolved to install a standby generator. This will allow the PH Legion to assist our residents with food and shelter. The cost of purchase and installation of a generator will be $75- 95,000. The PH Legion is applying for grants, but success will only be achieved through community support. Start by purchasing your tickets at penderharbourrotary.rafflenexus.com. Donations by cheque made out to the Pender Harbour Community Improvement Fund can be dropped off at the Legion.

With the recent breakins at IGA and GRIPS, our community appears to be victimized by catch and release of repeat offenders.Residents can implement care and control of our community. Past programs such as Block Watch were very effective in North Van where I previously lived. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks to all of you responding to my Facebook post and especially those who went to the IGA immediately when the police attended, viewed the video, and shared their thoughts.

Stay safe, aware, and caring about our precious community. Have a good week!
