Ron Johnston was the master of iconic events, the creator, facilitator always giving generously to benefit members of our community, his friends forever. He was the ultimate host, MC, maker of music, musicians and memories. The Garden Bay Pub was merriment personified, where friends were family. It was home, a fun filled joyous one. These are the times we will remember. Alongside every great man is a great woman and partner. Our love, condolences and thank you, Marita.
To all carrying the torch keeping Ron’s events alive, keep up the good work! Help is needed for another of Ron’s endeavours that he supported: the Pender Harbour Paddling Society. The Dragon Boat Club disbanded when the Garden Bay Pub burned down and they were locked out of the dock area. PHPS have three boats stored and now, have been asked to remove their large dragon boat from outside the Legion. They are looking for dock space. If anyone would like to help, can spare a section of dock, 40 feet, and/or are interested in getting the club started up again, this would help our community. There are many paddlers hoping to enjoy the harbour again. What a sad day it will be if the club has to get rid of their wonderful boats. Leslie will explain how this new initiative will improve access to justice and be a more cost-effective approach for the lay/self represented person. Leslie will clarify how as a legal coach, she can help people draft their own simple will, probate a will through the courts, obtain an uncontested divorce or assist with an existing court action. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. at the School of Music. Drop-in fee of $4 includes refreshments.
