FLAIR on the Coast will be starting up again this Saturday, Sept. 14, 10 a.m. to noon at the Rockwood Centre in Sechelt. It will be an open forum this month welcoming everyone to share their stories or a one-on-one. FLAIR is completely non-profit. They have a wig library, for loans of wigs, plus head scarves, and other accessories. This Cancer Support Group welcomes both men and women receiving cancer treatment, have been through it or a caregiver in the Pender Harbour/Egmont area to join us. The Pender Harbour Wildlife Society is pleased to host guest speaker, Jim Wilson community advisor for the Fisheries and Oceans Canada Sept. 17. He will talk about the Salmon Enhancement Program, the changes and progress. All are welcome to attend at the Pender Harbour Secondary School in the Food Room. Doors open at 6:45 p.m., presentation at 7 p.m. Refreshments and raffle.
The Pender Harbour Music Society Concert Series presents the fabulous jazz trio Trilogy, Sunday, Sept. 22. This supergroup of three award-winning Canadian jazz musicians –– Jodi Proznick on bass, Miles Black on piano and Bill Coon on guitar –– joined forces to form one of Canada’s finest jazz trios. Fashioned after the great early jazz trios of Nat King Cole and Oscar Peterson, they will be performing wonderful impromptu arrangements of classic standards and original tunes. The School of Music 2 p.m. Ticket available $30 on the PHMS website.
The Pender Harbour Garden Club is pleased to present guest speaker Nadia Vassev on Monday, Sept. 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the School of Music.
Nadia is a mother, gardener, baker, homesteader and a lifelong learner. She immigrated from Bulgaria and has been a full time Pender Harbour resident since 2016. When she is not baking sourdough delights for Picasso Bread, she is gardening or learning about leading edge gardening techniques. In the September talk, Nadia will be speaking on the topic of “Healthy soil, healthy plants, healthy people.” Learn about organic methods of fertilizer, electric culture and more. She will have items to sell: electric culture plant sticks, red wigglers hotels, worm castings, unique seeds and sourdough starter kits. Garden club annual membership $20, drop in $5. Complimentary tea/coffee and goodies.
