Pender Harbour-Egmont: Egmont Thrift Shop moves to set pricing

Up to now, the Egmont Thrift Shop has been by donation. That's to change Aug. 1, when set pricing starts for the Southern Sunshine Coast's northerly community's second-hand store.

This Saturday, July 20, take advantage of the Broom Invasive Species Removal Drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Before removal, please do your homework on the best way to effectively remove broom. If it has gone to seed, please wait until next year. Drop off your broom only at the fire department training area on the Landfill Road. Thank you to the Pender Harbour Fire Department volunteers who have graciously agreed to receive your broom. Sunday, July 28, the extremely popular Blue Western returns to the Legion for their Afternoon Dance Party from 2 to 5 p.m. $10 cover at the door. The kitchen will be open so come dine and dance.

Starting Thursday, August 1, the Egmont Thrift Shop will have pricing on merchandise and will no longer be “by donation.” Come shop at this delightful store full of treasures.

The Pender Harbour Wooden Boat Show is Aug. 2, 3 and 4 at Millennium Park. The weekend features a variety of heritage boats, exhibits, music, and food. Boaters, come join the Friday night boat parade, muster off the government dock at 5:30 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., it’s Harbour Lights!, a variety musical with members of the Pender Harbour Choir at the School of Music, $10 suggested donation at the door. So much to enjoy for everyone Saturday: sailboat races, Storytime Theatre by the Driftwood Players, speaker series with presentations with Bill Noon and Howard White, Hard Hat Diving exhibition and face painting with Miss Carla and boat building for the kids. Buy your tickets to win a Blue Heron Canoe. Tickets available anytime at the Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society website. Draw will be Sunday, Aug. 4 at 2 p.m.

Gunboat Bay Blues on the Dock, a highlight of the summer season in the harbour, will be Saturday, August 10, starting at 5 p.m. Enjoy great music while on the water, deck, and docks in the bay.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch #112 will host its annual golf tournament on Saturday, Aug. 17 starting at 2 p.m. The playing format is a modified Texas scramble. Entry is $70 per person, which includes golf, appies, dinner and prizes. Everyone will receive a prize! Power carts are not included in the entry fee. Registrations are accepted at the Legion for golf and dinner while power carts must be rented at the golf course.

The Pender Harbour Music Society Mid Summer Chamber Music Weekend Aug. 17 and 18 welcomes the return of five internationally outstanding musicians: Kai Gleusteen, violin, and Catherine Ordronneau, piano, Saturday, Aug. 17. This dynamic duo calls Barcelona home. Their programme from Dvorak, Kreisler, and Gershwin promises to be a marvellous opening of the PHMS 2024/2025 concert season. Then on Sunday, Aug. 18, there’s Joan Blackman, violin; Zoltan Rozsnyai, cello and Jane Hayes, piano. Joan and her colleagues are known for superbly expressive ensemble programmes and this Sunday afternoon of piano trios promises to be no exception, featuring the Brahms Op 8 and Babajanian Piano Trio. Dedicated chamber music fans are always delighted at the return of these gifted chamber musicians. Tickets available on the PHMS website.
