Obituary: Gayle Florence (née Peterson) Schwindt

Gayle Florence Schwindt, passed away on May 6, 2024 in her home in Gibsons, BC. She was born in Garden Bay, British Columbia, to the late Norman Peterson and Violet Clarke. Gayle was a loving and charismatic woman with a great sense of humor and an uncanny ability to connect with children, animals, and people from all walks of life everywhere she went. She enjoyed doing puzzles and playing cards, going fishing and camping, and had a lust for travel that she pursued until her final moments despite her daily struggles with Lupus and COPD.

Gayle dedicated 30 years of her life to the British Columbia Liquor Distribution Board until a brain hemorrhage in 2010 left her unable to work. She was a friendly face to many people in all three liquor stores on the Sunshine Coast and was known to always have hidden treasures for the kids.

She is survived by her husband, Dan Schwindt; son, Jason Peterson; daughter, Alycia Schwindt; grandchildren, Myles Peterson and Emilia Peterson; and sister, Vicki Rheaume, mother-in-law Jacqueline Halsey and stepmother-in-law Lera Schwindt. Also, many nieces and nephews by blood and by love that chose to call her Aunty Gayle. Gayle was preceded in death by her brother, James Peterson.

A celebration of life for Gayle will be held on June 2, 2024, at High Beam Dreams (old United church) in Gibsons, BC, from 1pm to 4pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring a story. Snacks and coffee will be provided at this alcohol-free event.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a charity supporting Lupus or COPD research or any other cause of your choice.
