Dr. Eva Pfeil passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, in Sechelt, British Columbia, just shy of her 103rd birthday, a pioneering industrial designer and beloved family member. Born February 28, 1922, in Breslau, Germany, to Ernst and Karoline Hillert, Eva was predeceased by her sister Ruth and granddaughter Tanya Richmond. She married Friedrich Pfeil in 1943, a Bauhaus graduate and architect who helped design the HfG-Ulm school. After studying under Max Bill in Switzerland, Eva joined her husband in Iran until his death in 1961. She later moved to the U.S. and became a professor at Auburn University's Industrial Design Program alongside Dr. Walter Schaer, influencing many students with her high standards and analytical approach. Eva was known for her kindness and generosity, especially towards her family. She retired to Sechelt, where she lived with her family in her later years. Eva is survived by her daughter Sylvia, son-in-law James Richmond, and granddaughter Dr. Sonya Richmond. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses, staff, and hospice volunteers who provided compassionate care.
