A Canucks Autism Network fundraiser hosted by the Puckin’ Coasters had 35 athletes come out for kickball! After an exciting morning of discovering how softball, soccer and dodgeball skills influence kickball, the teams were ready for the finals.

The championship game saw the colorfully dressed “New Kicks on the Block” face the tenacious “Dogs.” After a few cautious innings, NKotB put together some solid offensive innings behind the strength of Justin Samson, Jill Matthews and Taylor Nemeth going a collective 10/12 at the plate. The Dogs’ strong defense, led by shortstop Tony Duffy and Menina Colangelo’s strong play at first, kept the score close and the Dogs were down 13-10 going into the last inning. Dogs brought the tying run to the plate, but the NKotB defense, led by Brandon Fujimori and pitcher Matt Cottrell, were able to secure the victory.

A successful first tournament raised more than $700 and was capped off with enthusiasm for the next one. The Puckin’ Coasters continue their fundraising for the Canucks Autism Network with a Sechelt golf tournament on Sept. 7.
