Hi everyone! Hope you had a wonderful week and were able to enjoy the brief “snow day” this last Monday. Temperatures are becoming more seasonal and dropping below zero overnight, so be sure to protect outdoor plants and gardens and if you haven’t already, store garden hoses and turn off outdoor water supplies.
Justine from the Fawn Road Stand is happy to be a part of the first “Tiny Holiday Market” at The O Farm located at 8070 Redrooffs Road. Stop by for some holiday cheer, baked goods, full pies (fresh or frozen), cookie boxes and holiday decor. The market will be open for four days only: Dec.12, 16, 19 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. so be sure to check out this wonderful little market.
The Community Initiatives Program presents Santa in the Park at Coopers Green on Sunday, Dec. 12, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine. Santa’s sleigh isn’t quite ready so he will be arriving on a bright, shiny firetruck. There will be sweet treats, hot chocolate with marshmallows and a candy cane hunt. Make a decoration and help decorate the community tree which will be one of the trees in the park. This event is sponsored by the Halfmoon Bay Community Association, the Halfmoon Bay Volunteer Fire Department and the Halfmoon Bay Elementary School. Thank-you to all the volunteers and organizers for bringing this awesome event to the community!
The Halfmoon Bay Environmental Society (EBES) is very proud to present their newly completed website. Thanks to a talented new member of the society, the website is now ready for viewing. Their website (hbes.ca) provides news and alerts about the environment in Halfmoon Bay along with their history, membership information and how to donate. Since 1999, the Halfmoon Bay Environmental Society (formally the Halfmoon Bay Citizen’s Association) has focused on a variety of environmental causes including: sustainable development, invasive species like Scotch Broom and Japanese Knotweed, managing trails and advocating for new recreational spaces, supporting other local groups and educating and informing the local community with events and speakers. Well done and look forward to seeing new and current information on your site.
The Second Annual Halfmoon Bay Sail Pass has changed its event name to the Halfmoon Bay Annual Christmas Boat Parade to better reflect the festive aspect of this special holiday event. The scheduled date is Saturday, Dec. 18 beginning at dusk. Boat parade participants and shoreline viewers alike are hoping for great weather, with calm seas and no rain or snow. One last reminder will be included in next week’s column. Please contact Lynn directly at [email protected] for more information.
If you have any ideas for column content or have a community event or story you would like to share, please send ideas and suggestions to [email protected].
Be safe, be gentle, and always be kind.
