All across Canada, October is “Library Month,” a time to celebrate the ways libraries enhance our lives. Libraries create a stronger community through programs, services, resources and events that connect us and foster engagement on issues that concern us all. As a free public space where everyone can access the same resources, libraries are a great equalizer in society.
The mission of the Gibsons & District Public Library is to connect our community to the world of culture, knowledge and ideas through our expertise, inspiration, space and resources. Our library is changing and more relevant than ever. We are a vibrant hub for digital access, learning and community events, offering a range of services that go far beyond books.
Our services are constantly expanding to meet the aspirations and needs of local residents. We offer free membership to a million possibilities including free access to: a Library of Things including a telescope, podcasting kit, sewing machine and more; Kanopy Streaming service for films and documentaries; computers, printing and tech support; Comics Plus with free manga, comics and graphic novels; a soundproof work and study pod, and a fabulous new youth space.
We strive to be a cornerstone of our community, a place where everyone can find valuable resources, personal development and connection. As R. David Lankes stated “Average libraries only build collections. Good libraries build services. Great libraries build communities.”
