Letters: Without Dusty Road, we still don't have a plan for next summer

'It was understood from the beginning of this discussion that this wasn’t a proposed long-term solution to our continuing water woes, but a possible short-term step to mitigate a likely water shortage again this summer. For those not in the know, we still don’t have a plan – unless you are hoping it rains throughout the summer.'

The test well at Dusty Road is next to the District of Sechelt's new Public Works building. It is also near the Sechelt Landfill and mining operations.

Editor:

It was disappointing to say the least to witness in District of Sechelt council chambers, our new council’s reaction to Mayor Henderson’s proposal for a possible well at Dusty Road. Except for Councillor Darren Inkster…all other councillors voted against the mayor’s proposal to test the water to determine its potability.

It was understood from the beginning of this discussion that this wasn’t a proposed long-term solution to our continuing water woes, but a possible short-term step to mitigate a likely water shortage again this summer. For those not in the know, we still don’t have a plan – unless you are hoping it rains throughout the summer.

It pains me to listen to the perceived lack of inclusion from our councillors …from four levels of government and our need to kowtow to the province. By the way, where is Nicholas? Is the public not aware how long these governments bodies have been responsible for this issue?

April showers bring May flowers…after that...prepare for a high probability of water shortage and looking at a repeat of last year.

We are all rightly concerned...the Big Worry is forest fire and our limited ability to fight it. Last year, we got away lucky …ask the local fire chief Trevor Pike and our retired chief Bill Higgs about their concerns about lack of water.

A failing grade for sure… for this council...on this issue.

I voted for five of you to lead, not follow.
