Letters: Well served and fortunate

Editor:

I’m constantly amazed and delighted when reading the arts and culture articles in the Coast Reporter authored by Michael Gurney.  He clearly has a talent and interest in reporting on the constant flow of creativity here on the Coast.  From visual to musical to performing arts, he’s always there, taking notes, interviewing, researching and creating articles that provide a clear understanding of the topics and then delivering them to readers with incredible insight and detail.

Not only does he provide the information in a clear way, somehow he’s able to provide background on the topic which goes well beyond the surface.  He’s not a critic, he’s a highly competent reporter who records the names of creators and features these in his reporting along with a deep understanding of the topic.  He’s even able to increase our vocabulary such as the word “crepuscular” in describing the “uniquely muted evocation of light “ in one of the works of Elizabeth Evans at her recent exhibition opening.  Wow, there’s a word we don’t see too often. Time to click on a dictionary.

When I pick up the Coast Reporter on Fridays, I first open the last few pages to see and read what’s happening in the arts on the Coast.  I’m always delighted with the articles which provide a much-needed dose of good news. We are well served and fortunate to have such a committed and talented journalist covering this most important part of Coast life.  I look forward to reading the next articles and I now have my dictionary handy.  Bravo!
