Letters: 'I, personally, take responsibility for not fixing our water supply shortage'

Editor:

Further to his letter in the May 12 edition of the Coast Reporter (“Who will take responsibility for our lack of water?”), I would like Stan Lubin to know that I, personally, take responsibility for not fixing our water supply shortage. I agree that we need real action – on short term solutions and longer term permanent solutions. Unfortunately, my short term solutions were not supported by the other directors of the SCRD who appear content to let nature play out since they did not propose any other solutions.

I sincerely hope we have rain throughout the remainder of the year, that the Church Road well finally starts operating and that the province agrees with the suggestion from many community advocates to reduce the flow of water during periods when fish are not migrating in Chapman Creek.  Those will hopefully help us get through this summer and fall without, what I worry, could be catastrophic shortages.

In the meantime, I will continue to propose solutions as part of my responsibility to deliver water to all residents.

Sincerely,

John R Henderson

Mayor, District of Sechelt
