Re: "Dogs banned on sports field" (Coast Reporter, letters, Feb. 15)

The solution isn't banning dogs from the sports fields at Kinnikinnick Park.
How are you going to stop the people who go to the park and do not pick up after their dogs? It won't matter to the owners who don't care. They will still go up there, day or night, and allow their dogs to do their business and then walk away without cleaning up.
Maybe putting up signs with mention of a fine, or take the licence plate number or pictures of people who are not picking up their dogs' waste. Be proactive, people! You can bet there are many eyes on those who use the fields and trails.
Those of us who use the fields regularly use only the lower field as requested by Perry Schmidt, the parks supervisor from Sechelt. We are still waiting for the signs he suggested. Some of us will clean up prior to the games, if we know when they are. We don't mind sharing the park and fields. Let's work together to make the park a safe and clean environment for everyone's use.
