Editor:
I commend the Reporter’s persistent efforts to inform its readers on candidates’ positions in the approaching election. I particularly appreciated the inclusion of Rhino candidate Mr. Gordon Jeffrey in this. Their platform plank in an election long ago, of “returning vehicles to right-hand drive in solidarity with The Mother Country, but in phases: first year all passenger vehicles, second year trucks and buses” is memorable.
But Mr. Jeffrey’s response to the “what about reconciliation” question was: “Most of the Indigenous people I’ve spoken to feel like the federal government isn’t listening, so could we start there (if we’re not too busy patting ourselves on the back for wearing orange shirts)” struck uncomfortably close to home.
Enough with the tokenism. If the federal government won’t listen to Indigenous people, I hope it will at least listen to the Rhinos.
And if they get any closer to the truth, we might have to revoke the Rhinos’ Satire License.
