The recent run of success by athletes from the Sechelt Indian Band (SIB) continued at the Seabird Island tournament on the May 30 weekend.
The U7 Sechelt Bumble Bees brought home first place after edging Seabird 2-0 in the final. Jaden Fodchuk and Kordell Johnson scored the goals. All-star awards were presented to Kordell and Taliah Yelton.
The U10 Sechelt Warriors claimed gold for the second tournament in a row (they were first at the Musqueam tournament at UBC two weeks ago) with a 3-1 win over the Stalo Nation.
Everett August, Marcellus Craigan and Justin Fodchuk scored the goals in the championship game. All-star awards were presented to Cassius Craigan and Aiyana August.
The U13 Renegades lost 2-1 to Seabird Island in the semifinal, which knocked them into the third/fourth place game. Sechelt won that game 2-1 against Chilliwack with goals from Donovan Dixon and Darryl Julius after a great cross from Lakota Joe. All-star awards were presented to Summer August and Shale Douglas.
While the U13 Renegades were playing, the Sechelt senior men's Renegades team was also competing and finished in second place after a tough 2-1 loss to Musqueam. Jeremy Hudson scored the lone goal for Sechelt that got to the final after a thrilling shootout win in the semifinals over Squamish. Sechelt had two teams competing in the men's division.
The Sechelt U16 team had a good weekend of play, but were in a tough division and did not advance to the playoffs after three hard-fought games.
The Xenichen Ya Yas women's team made the trip and enjoyed the weekend watching all the SIB teams and cheering on their accomplishments.
Up next for the SIB teams is a tournament in Mount Currie June 20 and 21 followed by their own tournament set for the July 18 and 19 weekend at Ted Dixon Field in Sechelt.
