The Sunshine Coast Skating Club has announced that figure skater Elvis Stojko will be on the Sunshine Coast to perform two shows on March 11, 2017 at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre.
Stojko – born in Newmarket, Ont. – is a Canadian figure skater whose outstanding jumping ability helped him win three word titles in 1994, 1995 and 1997, and two Olympic silver medals in 1994 and 1998.
Stojko broke ground in the figure skating world by pushing the boundaries of athleticism in the sport at a time when judges were more impressed by technical virtuosity. That style made him a fan favourite when he moved on to professional shows.
The Sunshine Coast Skating Club has been instructing skating on the Sunshine Coast for almost 40 years. They offer a variety of programs for children who are just starting out to competitive figure skaters.
