It was a packed house at the Gibsons & Area Community Center to watch the four-time defending Sunshine Coast Adult Hockey League (SCAHL) champions Custom Hawks take on the Bruins on Saturday, April 22.
In a game reflective of the dominance shown by the Custom Hawks all season, the Hawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first period, with goals scored by Mac Roy, Marc Chabot and Gilbert Brule. Despite numerous attempts by the Bruins to score, Hawks goalie Jackson McIntosh kept the Bruins scoreless through the second period with the Hawks adding goals by Matt Siddall and Gilbert Brule. The Bruins did their best to come back in the third, down 5-0. Eventually the Bruins did get on the scoreboard with their first goal courtesy of Dalon Starnes. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for the Bruins to come back against the Hawks, who scored a further insurance goal by Mac Roy late in the third for a final score of 6-1.
Thanks to all the fans that showed up to cheer on their team and make for a great atmosphere, especially in the context of having a junior hockey team playing here in Gibsons hopefully in the not-too-distant future.
For those local hockey fans, there is still a lot of hockey to be enjoyed starting tonight (Friday, April 28) as the Hitmen 7-Aside tournament kicks off at 5:15 at the Gibsons & Area Community Centre. The tournament runs all weekend with the finals set for Sunday with the C Final at 11:15 a.m., B Final at 3 p.m. and the A Final at 4:15 p.m. Hope to see you there!
