The Chatelech Girls’ Rugby team qualified for the BC High School Rugby Sevens tournament by successfully competing against the best public high school teams in the Lower Mainland on April 12 and 13.
The qualification tourney, which was played in North Vancouver, opened with a well-played win against Windsor Secondary, followed by a loss to long-time rival Handsworth Secondary and a win against Rockridge Secondary.
Thursday opened with a loss to the tourney winners McRoberts Secondary and ended with a hard-fought, come from behind win against Burnaby North Secondary.
Chatelech’s girls’ rugby programme is only in its second full year and for such a young team to be able to compete at the provincial tournament is an outstanding achievement.
The 2017 BC Sevens Rugby Championship takes place at UBC on April 21 and 22.
