Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for June 14 to 21:
A hit and run was reported in a parking lot in the 400 block of Marine Drive after a vehicle backed into another parked vehicle and drove off without stopping. The suspect vehicle is a dark blue or green Jeep type vehicle with the roof taken off. Police are reviewing surveillance footage.
Early on June 19, a thief broke a window to gain access into a business in the 1000 block of Roberts Creek Road. The only items stolen were three, 60 oz bottles of vodka.
On June 15, a thief stole a backpack from a open-top vehicle parked in the 5700 block of Cowrie Street. The black Adidas backpack contained some cash, and personal identification.
On June 14, a business called to report that they had surveillance footage showing a male shoplift from them twice that morning. While police were reviewing the footage, the suspect was seen on the premises again. The suspect was arrested and after police located a number of stolen items in the suspect's possession, the suspect admitted to the thefts.
A possible dangerous driver was reported on Highway 101 after a witness reported being cut off by a vehicle passing on a solid line. The suspect driver then tailgated another vehicle and blew through several stop signs before the witness lost sight of the vehicle. The witness was able to provide a vehicle description and licence plate and an officer was able to locate the suspect driver. As the witness was willing to provide a statement and attend traffic court if necessary, the officer issued the driver violation tickets for disobeying a traffic control device and passing on the right.
Overnight on June 14, a suspect gained entry into an unlocked vehicle parked in the 5500 block of Ocean Avenue, rifled through the glove box and removed the fuse box cover, but nothing was stolen or damaged.
A two-vehicle collision occurred in the 4600 block of Highway 101 after a northbound vehicle crossed the centre line and struck a southbound vehicle head-on. Both vehicles sustained major damage and both drivers were taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The northbound driver advised he had been distracted from watching the road when he reached from some fast food. Alcohol is not considered a factor in this incident. The northbound driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care.
Sometime in the last two weeks, thieves broke into a storage unit by using bolt cutters to cut through a chain and stole three STIHL chainsaws and one HUSQVARNA chainsaw.
A two-vehicle collision occurred in the 11500 block of Highway 101 after a northbound motorcycle crossed a double solid line and collided head-on with a southbound vehicle. The motorcyclist was flown by helicopter to Vancouver General Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Speed is considered a factor and a violation ticket will be issued to the motorcyclist.
