In 2025, there will be split chairmanship for the Sunshine Coast Regional District’s (SCRD) committee of the whole, according to a motion endorsed by the board at its Dec. 12 meeting.

Area E director Donna McMahon is to be at the helm for meetings scheduled for the second Thursday of each month and Area D director Kelly Backs to chair meetings set to be held on the fourth Thursday monthly.

The motion also appointed Area F director Kate Stamford to the chair of the electoral services and board policy review committees next year.

It further endorsed Alton Toth, a director for the District of Sechelt and the board’s recently elected chair, to fill the finance committee’s chair role in 2025. At the meeting, Toth mentioned he would be proposing a change in title for that group to “budget committee."

Earlier that same day at a committee of the whole meeting, SCRD board liaison appointments for the coming year were reviewed. Changes made included recently appointed Chair Toth taking on the role of representing the region on the Municipal Finance Authority and the Island Coastal Economic Trust, taking over from Area A director and former board chair Leonard Lee.

Also, Stamford agreed to take on as liaison with the new Sunshine Coast Chamber of Commerce. In 2024, she served in that role with the Gibsons and District Chamber, which has since been rolled into the new region-wide business community association.
