Updated: Some Sunshine Coast sailings reinstated Tuesday evening

The 4:20 p.m. ferry from Horseshoe Bay and the 5:25 p.m. ferry from Langdale will be the last runs to and from the Sunshine Coast Tuesday as BC Ferries prepares for an incoming storm.

BC Ferries has updated its cancellations for Tuesday evening as a winter storm bears down on B.C.'s South Coast. The service notice has been updated to reflect that four sailings are cancelled this evening, but ferries are expected to run through the evening.

The cancelled sailings Tuesday evening are: 

  • 5:30 pm departing Horseshoe Bay
  • 6:40 pm departing Langdale
  • 7:50 pm departing Horseshoe Bay
  • 8:55 pm departing Langdale

The sailings expected to sail as scheduled are: 

  • 1:05 pm departing Langdale 
  • 2:10 pm departing Horseshoe Bay
  • 3:15 pm departing Langdale
  • 4:20 pm departing Horseshoe Bay
  • 5:25 pm departing Langdale
  • 6:30 pm departing Horseshoe Bay
  • 7:30 pm departing Langdale
  • 8:40 pm departing Horseshoe Bay
  • 10:55 pm departing Horseshoe Bay
  • 9:35 pm departing Langdale

While BC Ferries media relations couldn't speak specifically to Route 3, they said the weather situation is "evolving very quickly."

"Today, things are changing minute by minute," they said, adding that the ferry service is in contact with Environment and Climate Change Canada, making changes as needed. 

"For those customers travelling on to Powell River today, these cancellations are not expected to impact your ability to travel on the Earls Cove (Sechelt) – Saltery Bay (Powell River) route today," said the notice.

The 4:20 p.m. ferry from Horseshoe Bay and the 5:25 p.m. ferry from Langdale will be the last runs between the lower Sunshine Coast and the Lower Mainland Tuesday, as BC Ferries prepares for an incoming storm

With high winds forecast for Howe Sound Nov. 19, BC Ferries has cancelled the following sailings: 

  • 5:30 pm departing Horseshoe Bay
  • 6:40 pm departing Langdale
  • 7:50 pm departing Horseshoe Bay
  • 8:55 pm departing Langdale
  • 10:10 pm departing Horseshoe Bay

"If you have a booking on one of these cancelled sailings, you will hear from our Customer Service Centre to let you know if we can fit you on an alternate sailing, or if your booking must be cancelled," said a service notice. "In the case of a cancellation, we will refund your fees and/or fares. Click here for more information about bookings on cancelled sailings."

The last sailing expected to connect to the Earls Cove-Saltery Bay route is scheduled to depart Horseshoe Bay at 4:20 p.m.
