There are Remembrance Day ceremonies taking place across the lower Sunshine Coast, Nov. 11.
Gibsons
Gibsons Legion 109 is hosting Remembrance Day ceremonies outside, starting at 10:45 a.m. with the ceremony ending at 11 a.m. with a moment of silence. The lounge opens at 12:30 p.m. and there will be entertainment from 1 to 5 p.m. Doors close at 6 p.m. Gibsons Legion, 109, 747 Gibsons Way.
Pender Harbour
The Remembrance Day ceremony in Pender Harbour begins at 10:30 a.m., with a procession starting from the Music School and ending at the Legion. An outdoor service begins at 10:45 a.m. at the Legion and ends with two minutes of silence at 11 a.m.
Refreshments will be served inside the Legion following the ceremony and all-ages are welcome. Pender Harbour Legion, 12829 Lillies Lake Rd., Madeira Park.
Money from the Pender Harbour Legion’s poppy fund is being used to provide bursaries for Pender Harbour Secondary graduates and much-needed financial support for veterans in need.
Sechelt
The Remembrance Day Parade begins at the Sechelt Legion at 10:45 a.m. with the muster starting at 10:15 a.m.
The service at the cenotaph, located at the corner of Cowrie Street and Wharf Avenue, begins at 10:50 a.m. with a moment of silence at 11 a.m. Following the ceremony, visit the new location of the Legion to enjoy entertainment by Joanne Chiasson and friends. Sechelt Legion, at 5546 Inlet Ave.
Members of the 2963 Seaforth Highlanders of Canada Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps will take part in the march, while four members stand vigil at the cenotaph.
Rutter’s Requiem
More than 60 singers and instrumentalists will perform a 20th-century choral masterwork on Remembrance Day in Sechelt. Rutter’s Requiem, scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Nov. 11 at St. Hilda's Anglican Church, will be paired with a performance by the Choralations Children Choir (under the direction of Janice Brunson) singing a contemporary setting of John McCrae’s poem In Flanders Fields. Roberts Creek
The Roberts Creek Legion will host a full Remembrance Day ceremony, Nov. 11, starting at 10:45 a.m. with a service at 11 a.m.
Following the service all are welcome to visit the Legion for a hot lunch. Roberts Creek Legion, 3064 Lower Road.
