School District 46 has closed all schools Wednesday as a snowfall coats the Coast. This includes all schools, departments and facilities as well as all early learning and child care programming.
"The snow is causing unsafe road conditions for our school buses, staff and family vehicles all along the Sunshine Coast," said the notice. "We care about the safety of students, staff, and families and always want to make the best decision given the conditions."
Transit
The snow also means cancellations for the bus service. As of 4:15 p.m., Route 1 has highway service from Sechelt to Gibsons and the regular route to the ferry. There's no service to lower Field Road, Beach Avenue, Lower Road, Chaster or Pratt. Route 90 has regular service with Route 90N accessing the ferry via Marine Drive. Route 2 has regular routing. Route 3 has regular routing with the exception of Marine Way. Route 4 has no service past Mason Road.
BC Transit's customer alert system is offline. BC Transit is issuing updates on its social media platforms – Facebook, Instagram and X.
SCRD
The Sunshine Coast Regional District's main administration office on Field Road is closed.
The SCRD's recreation facilities (Gibsons and Area Community Centre, Gibsons Pool, Sechelt Pool, Sunshine Coast Arena and Pender Pool) are closed for the day.
The Sechelt Landfill and Pender Harbour Transfer Station are closed for the day.
Also cancelled is curbside garbage and food waste collection for the Halfmoon Bay service area today.
The Jan. 18 Regional Hospital District Meeting is rescheduled to Jan. 25 at 9 a.m. The Electorial Area Services Committeee meeting, however, will proceed as scheduled.
District of Sechelt
District of Sechelt's municipal hall is closed all day because of the snow. An alert says to stay tuned about the evening's regular council meeting.
Wednesday waste collection is cancelled and rescheduled for Saturday. Put bins out by 8 a.m. Saturday morning.
Town of Gibsons
Town of Gibsons has cancelled Zone 1 garbage collection Wednesday because of snow. The Zone 1 garbage will be picked up with Zone 2 garbage on Thursday.
Waste Management
Waste Management is asking businesses in Sechelt to clear ice and snow so its trucks can access containers. Services may be delayed if drivers are unable to reach containers.
