The VanAsep Training Society and its partners are proud to announce the successful completion of the first independent hydro power plant operators training program on the Coast.

A ceremony was held at the Sechelt Band Hall recently to honour the graduates who successfully completed the training. First Nation communities from throughout B.C. were represented -Tahltan from Dease Lake, Hupa-casath from Port Alberni, Namgis from Alert Bay, Douglas First Nation from Douglas, Squamish Nation from North Vancouver and the Sechelt First Nation.

The students will leave the program with the knowledge and experience to run and operate Run of the River Hydro projects ensuring their communities will benefit from IPP agreements within traditional First Nations territories.

The 18-week program was designed, developed and delivered by VanAsep with Regional Power Ltd, Cloudworks Energy and the Sechelt First Nation and utilizes a combination of lectures, videos, demonstrations, practical projects and field trips to teach and test the multiple theoretical, technical and experiential components that today's effective operators must have. This program was held in Sechelt and Tsawwassen.
