Sechelt man facing assault charge

A 57-year-old Sechelt man was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer shortly before midnight on June 28 during a routine traffic stop. According to Sunshine Coast RCMP Cpl.

A 57-year-old Sechelt man was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer shortly before midnight on June 28 during a routine traffic stop.

According to Sunshine Coast RCMP Cpl. Steve Chubey, the 10-year police officer attempted to arrest the suspect after the man had gotten out of his vehicle and aggressively advanced towards the officer.

"After a physical altercation, the officer was eventually able to gain control of the suspect and arrested him for assaulting a police officer," said Chubey. "Both the suspect and the police officer sustained minor injuries. The suspect had been pulled over for speeding."

The name of the suspect has not been released pending approval of the charge in Sechelt provincial court.

Gibsons man caught red-handed

A 20-year-old Gibsons man is facing several mischief and breach-related charges after Sunshine Coast RCMP arrested him June 30 in connection to several spray-painting incidents.

On the morning on June 30, RCMP received a report that several vehicles and signs had been spray-painted on South Fletcher Road.

"Police followed the trail of spray-painted vehicles and signsto a residence in the area," said Chubey. "Police attended the residence and was metby a 20-year-old Gibsons male, who was known by police and currently on probation with a condition "not to consume" alcohol. The investigating officer noticed that the male had spray paint on his hands matching that of the sprayed vehicles and signs, and was under the influence of alcohol. The suspect was arrested for mischief and breach of probation."

Chubey said the man is currently in police custody awaiting an appearance in Sechelt provincial court to answer to the charges.
