A search for a missing man last seen Monday, June 17 in the Egmont area has been called off.
Search and rescue teams from the Sunshine Coast and Squamish combed the area around Waugh Lake in Egmont and an RCMP dive team used sonar and searched the lake itself, but were unable to locate the man.
“We were hopeful he would be located,” said Sunshine Coast RCMP Const. Karen Whitby. “At this time the search has been suspended and we are unsure of when and if it will be resumed.”
Thomas Hines, originally from the Maritimes, had recently moved to the Coast and was working at a camping resort in Egmont. The 26-year-old was reported missing June 18 after failing to return home after a canoe tip on Waugh Lake. His canoe was found, but without any sign of Hines.
Anyone with information regarding any recent interactions with Hines is asked to call Sunshine Coast RCMP at 604-885-2266.
