SCRD board chair Garry Nohr welcomes new chief administrative officer Janette Loveys.

The Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) has found a new chief administrative officer in former general manager of community services Janette Loveys.

Loveys took over the position of CAO at the SCRD on Sept. 18 and she intends to also continue in her role as general manager “for the time being,” said SCRD communications officer Cecilia Garcia.

Acting CAO Angie Legault, who has filled the position since former CAO John France resigned in June, has returned to her regular duties as corporate officer.

Loveys was away at a conference this week and unavailable for comment, but she wrote in a press release that she was “honoured to have been selected for this role and feel a strong sense of commitment to the SCRD and the coastal community. I am excited at the opportunity to work with the board and our staff to deliver on the priorities set for the SCRD.”

Loveys has held several leadership roles in public service in Victoria and Ontario, where she was the interim city manager for the City of Welland before coming to the SCRD.

She joined the SCRD in June as the general manager of community services.

“Ms. Loveys has a strong belief in community engagement, public participation, and effective interpersonal communication and in developing close relationships with First Nations, locally and internationally,” a press release from the SCRD said.

“Her award-winning international work with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities has produced a deep respect for other cultures and reinforced the value and importance of local government in the community it serves.”

SCRD board chair Garry Nohr said directors were “thrilled to have Janette on board” and look forward to the “benefit of her experience to move the organization forward in a positive and progressive manner.”
