A 33-year-old Halfmoon Bay woman will face marijuana charges after a vehicle rollover unearthed more than just a suspected case of impaired driving on Tuesday.

The single-vehicle accident occurred on Sechelt Inlet Road about a kilometre north of Porpoise Bay Provincial Park, said Cpl. Bryson Hill of the Sunshine Coast RCMP, who arrived on the scene shortly before 7 p.m. Observations of the driver's condition led the police to initiate an impairment investigation, and the vehicle was searched for evidence of alcohol.

Instead, RCMP found a pound of marijuana packaged in nearly 50 small bags of about 10 grams each, Hill said. The woman, who was unhurt except for minor injuries, will face a charge of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. She was wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred. The vehicle, a 1993 Toyota pick-up truck, is a write-off, said Hill.
