Sunshine Coast RCMP are actively investigating a case of arson following a small fire inside a men's washroom at Pender Harbour Secondary School Tuesday afternoon.

On Jan. 4 around 2:30 p.m., RCMP received a call from the Pender Harbour fire department asking for assistance at the school. Fire fighters were called to extinguish the fire, which they were able to keep contained and the damage was localized to only the washroom, according to Sgt. Stu Falebrinza.

"It is obvious that the fire was deliberately set and the Sunshine Coast RCMP are actively pursuing the person or person's responsible," said Falebrinza in a news release. "During this incident the school was evacuated without incident and there were no injuries. There was only a minor disruption to classes. There is no firm estimate for damages."

Sunshine Coast RCMP are asking any persons with knowledge of this incident to contact the local detachment at 604-885-2266, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
