Hwy 101
protest

Members of the Hospital Employees Union, the Canadian Union of Public Employees and the Sunshine Coast Council of Senior Citizens lined the highway on July 22 to protest the planned closure of Shorncliffe and Totem Lodge by Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).

The “Rally for Seniors Care on the Sunshine Coast” saw about 30 members of the public take part between 1:30 and 3 p.m. that day. Ruth Houle with the seniors council said she hoped the demonstration would garner more support for the council’s efforts to ask VCH to halt its plan to close Shorncliffe and Totem Lodge and build one new residential care home on the Coast, to do an in depth study of possible options and to consult all major stakeholders.
